What I've learned over at the biodiesel forum on infopop (the busiest and most reliable one I've found) is that people who run into problems are running unwashed fuel. Unwashed fuel tends to contain particulate matter, is more hydroscopic (meaning you're introducing water to your fuel system), and is going to contain soaps and methanol. Those are things you don't want in your motor. Can you get away with running unwashed bio in your PSD 7.3? Seems that way. But why chance it? Washing isn't hard, and its how you test to make sure your fuel is high quality.

What I haven't heard of is someone running B100 that's of high quality and getting into trouble. Perhaps some of you have, but from what I can tell the people who get into trouble run into trouble because of fuel quality (something that will nail you whether it's dino or bio). Bio's higher lubricity would be a plus I'd think, and the high pressure thing might be an issue, but you'd think it would overcome the viscosity issue--pressure is your friend!

Whattya wanna bet that properly washed, ASTM converted bio doesn't have the polymerization problem? It's a simply hydrocarbon chain, you wouldn't think it would have that problem. Thoughts?

Amen big daddy. Bio is hydrocarbon neutral; you're not introducing hydrocarbons from under the earth's surface into the atmosphere, so you can tell that weenie in the Prius next to you that your vehicle is more environmentally friendly than his weeniemobile.

And you're encouraging the production of a renewable resource made here as opposed to buying energy from those really progressive, forward thinking places like Iran, Iraq, Saudi, Venezuela, Kazahkstan, etc.

Howdy All,
I have 313K on my 95 and have been using B100 for the last 3K miles (approx). I have had no problems so far, I get it from the same dealer, unless I get caught out somewhere, then I will get the BioWillie or name brand gas station biodiesel.
My plans are to start brewing my own in January,(I graduate in December) because I am paying 2.79 a gallon for B100 and would like to cut that down significantly. I believe the home kits run $3K-$5K and I am paying about 200.00 a month for my truck alone so in roughly two and a 1/2 years my kit would pay for itself.
What are the rest of y'all paying for B100? If you are in the DFW area where did you get it from?
See ya',
Craig
