How do you suggest to start using Biodiesel?
So the truck is a new to me 2006 with about 130k. Well maintained according to the Oasis and Carfax, always dealer serviced.
I have a nearby source for Biodiesel and I'm interested in trying it. They sell from B5-B100. I know about keeping extra fuel filters on standby and so on. My question is how to start? Go all in and start pumping B100? Wait for all the crap to cleaned out of my fuel system and change the filters weekly. Start slowly with B5 or B50? Change the filters monthly and slow increase the percentage of Biodiesel? In either case, when should I change the fuel filter the first time? How long until the next filter change? I'm being cautious because I don't want anything catastrophic to occur. At the same time, for all I know the original owner ran B100 since it was brand new? Advice on starting with Biodiesel and filter change intervals??? |

You can start with whatever you want. Filter will clog up probably in about 500-1000 miles and then maybe 10k miles and then pretty much never. Biodiesel doesnt clog filters, it cleans out your fuel system and the filter catches all the gunk.

Thanks for the reply.
My concern was "shocking" my fuel system and stripping all of the gunk out at once. I don't want to cause any sudden issues. So I thought maybe starting slow would be better, but if you think it won't make any difference maybe I'm looking at it wrong. It doesn't sound as though there is a "break in" process for BioDiesel which is my concern. I'll top off my current tank when I have a chance with B100 which should give me about 10 gallons of BioDiesel. Thanks again |
