how much weight in a 1 ton?
I have a 96' F350 psd, crew cab, 4x4, long box none duly. I would like to be able to regularly haul about 4000 lbs. in the bed. My plan is to modify a slide in camper so I can carry 300 gallons of vegetable oil, plus the camper, plus the tongue weight of boats and trailers. The total weight will be around 4000lbs. What modifications do I need to do to make this work. Would adding leaf springs be enough?

300 gallons x 7 pounds per gallon average = 2100 pounds
airbags and an overload spring but your truck will ride like a skateboard. |

One of the Diesel mags that's on the news stands now has a cool write up on an air bag suspension system for the newer F350 models.
It's a really trick setup, rides nice loaded or unloaded. I'm a big fan of Firestone bags. I'm not to keen on add a leafs though. |
