SVO in a 96'
Hey guys,
I am in the process of getting a 96' f250 crew cab short bed and want to do a SVO conversion on it. The question I have is I want to use the stock duel tank system on the truck to run veggie. I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this approach and any suggestions on how best to heat the oil, as i know there are alot of you with experience on these types of engines and most of what I know is from Mercedes. Any info would be great ~John Swenson |

I install kits from gtmotorworks.com in Tucson. They use a Hot Fox heated pickup that you could install in a stock steel tank. Then I'd recommend running your veggie oil through a heated filter and separate heat exchanger, all available from gtmotorworks. Rule of thumb here is you can't get your veggie oil TOO hot!

Do not put vegi in your stock "steel" tank and heat it. This will cause you all kinds of problems. Look up Polymerization. Check into a 2 tank system where you have an aluminum tank for the vegi. Aluminum and vegi will not react creating the polymerization effect you will see in a steel tank. Vegistroke has a system custom taylored for a PSD and you will not find a better design for that engine. PM me if you have specific questions. |

Poly tanks should be fine, they are usally stock nowadays anyway. Check out FRYBRID SVO/WVO FORUM an open and public discussion of Vegetable Oil as a fuel - lots of great info. I am right now using a 50 gal polyethelene tank in my bed with a seperate fuel system (a necessity) and am getting great results- better than diesel! |
