Adding tranny fluid or 2-cycle oil
Back in the early 90's when LSD (500ppm) diesel came out, A farmer/diesel fanatic that lived down the road from me, swore up and down that "you gotta add a quart of tranny fluid to your diesel every tank to keep the injection pump happy"
He said 2-stroke oil was good too, but ATF was cheaper.... He said it added all the sulfur back into the diesel that they took out. Anyway, been reading and lurking through this forum, and haven't heard any mention of ATF... Wondering what you guys think, and what you've heard..... I am not sure 2 stroke oil or ATF has ANY sulfur in it, but it might act as a lubricant and do the same thing... Also, if Sulfur is so important, 80w-90 has a high sulfur content, but not sure it would thin out in diesel... Thoughts? |

I read an article last night - it is posted as a link on this forum somewhere, but I can't find it. IT was talking about additives and all the "crud" you can put in your engine... basically - ATF, 2 stroke oil, used motor oil, etc gain you nothing and actually can damage your injectors and other engine components. Sulfer does nothing for the engine - it is a molecule attached w/the sulfer that helps lube with the lubricity. Sulfer is corrosive to the engine and toxic to the atmosphere. Basically - if you want to add something to the tank - make sure its made for the specific purpose or "oem" approved. (diesel clean or standyne-sp?) |

I posted this last night in a different thread: About Diesel Fuel ATF and 2-cycle might have been OK in the older big rigs, but I sure wouldn't do it now. I just started using Diesel Kleen. It helps with both lubrication and raising the cetane rating of the fuel. A much better choice.

I use the Lucas Fuel Additive every other tank. It is good for cleaning injectors and lubing the system. It can also be used with gas motors. I put it in my wife's Saturn VUE. She gets about 2 MPG better fuel mileage. I see about 50 more miles per tank by using it. I love the stuff. I tried Diesel Kleen and did not see an increase in mileage.

I ran ashless 2-stroke a few times, 1 oz to a gallon. Ran much quieter, smoother, and I did get better fuel mileage. almost got 500 miles on a filled to the brim tank. Pretty decent improvement.. 2 Cycle Oil Research I only ran it a few times to try it out, cause, I am a guinea pig type person, if it's been tried by one, i'll also try it Yeah yeah, he's running a cummins, different injection system. I suppose there may also be some long term effects on things, but god. I couldnt even hear the engine free spinning with the t/c locked. Usually without bio, or the 2 stroke. I can hear the engine runnign still, like a slightly valve noise, etc. Bio reduces the noise, but this 2 stroke oil, it totally went away. But anyway, I don't run it anymore, but it's not because I thought it was something bad, although it might be. |

I use Soy Guard Plus made by Archer Petroleum. They have made high quality oils and additives since 1929. It's made from soybeans, increases mileage (several testimonials of 15%), boosts combustion, increases lubricity, cleans injectors, increases cetene rating 4-5pts, and has a fuel stabilizer. Costs less than .06 per gallon of fuel to treat. I'm a dealer and have been using their products on all my of equipment for years and love it. Archeroil.com
