Newbie fuel question---
I am looking into buying a new FordF250 in a few months.. I want the powerstroke diesel engine. I have a few questions for guys that know the answers..
1) Could I legally fill up at the same pumps as the semitrucks at the truckstop? (someone told me that OTR semi fuel is tax-exempt in Indiana, and the fuel nozzle won't fit in a passenger pickup truck tank hole.. TRUE?) 2) Is this the same grade/type of diesel fuel that is near the unleaded pumps at a different station? 3) Is this fuel safe for a 2007/2008 model? 4) I am opting also for the "dual-alternator" option.. Can you run 1 of the alternators on a seperate charging system? I want to run a high powered audio/video system. |

Welcome Aboard !!!!!!1 1. Yes, it's legal - it's the same diesel (the fuel comes out of the same in-ground tank as the diesel pump around front of the station). The price listed on the pump is usually the price with the tax and when you go in to pay sometimes they give a "discount" to the OTR drivers which is probably the tax break. Also the fuel nozzle will fit and it's a WHOLE lot faster than the one at the passenger pumps. I can be topped off in the time it takes me to get to $30 on the smaller one. Plus the benefits of a truck stop is that 1. it pumps faster, 2. fuel is usually cheaper because of their volume and 3. (most important) with the high volume they sell the diesel is not sitting in a tank gathering moisture or gelling up. It's fresh stuff (compared to a gas station that doesn't sell much diesel) 2. see answer above. Everywhere pretty much has the ULSD (15ppm) nowadays. Even though some of the pumps here in AL still have the Low Sulfur stickers they really have ULSD in the tank. I talked to a couple of the owners and they said that ULSD is all they have been able to get since the first of the year, just haven't changed stickers yet. 3. And unless you're running the '08 6.4 it doesn't matter anyway. The '07 6.0's fall under the 2006 guidelines so they are still approved for the Low Sulfur (500ppm). Now I'm not from Indiana so all of this is based on my travels in many states along the southeast. |
