but tell me this...

does the cost of this stuff adding to your fuel outweigh the cost of a the fuel you would burn w/o the additive?

My 04 6.0L just got a new turbo at 45k miles and the mechanic said that if I'd have been using cetane booster I wouldn't have had the problem. Luckilly I was still on warrenty. Prompted me to order a new truck tho. And a year ago I swore I'd never own another Ford...
Hope I have better luck with my 08!

I don't see the relation to you getting a new turbo and how having higher c-tane values corrorlate. What was wrong with your turbo?

Cetane booster and my turbo

My turbo had to be replaced because of extreme carbon buildup and according to the tech this would have been prevented if I'd been using cetane booster. And the way I drive I didn't think any carbon could build up...I generally have the turbo spinning full tilt.

Ahh Ok, I guess that makes sense. I mean the 6.0L needs to have extra fuel addtives in it, just to not cause injector o-ring failure, so perhpas having a little more Cetane to extend turbo life is not to far fetched.

I don't get it. You had your truck repaired under warranty, AND the mechanic told you how to prevent that particular problem in the future, SO that prompted you to order a new truck???? Maybe I'm just too logical, but that would tend to make me keep my current truck and just start using a cetane booster/lubricity additive!

BTW, my truck is doing fine, but it's had Stanadyne or Diesel Kleen in every tank. There has been a study posted, at:

Lubricity Additive Study Results - Diesel Place

that examined a number of additives for lubricity. The ones that are also cetane boosters are so noted.

I'll be driving my truck until either it or I die. But, that's just me.

I know I am late here but I had to add my 3$$ worth. My powerstroke owners manual says not to use addatives like diesel kleen or cetane as they can damage your fuel injection system.I am only repeating what the manual says,so I guess it would be prudant on finding out what the manual says about your particular vehicle. As far as ecepting the word of a dealerships information I would rather get on this forum and get unbiased information from the members here.any way I wish you the best.
