Illinois, Chicago, Obama, bull***t.

Seems to be the trend lately in that state.

Don't forget to charge the folks in the city of Chicago a tax for using taxi cabs or walking.

Yeh I can see it now "The Nike Bill"

A retired chemist and his wife in Illinois are being threatened with felony charges — for operating a car that runs on vegetable oil and diesel fuel.

The Decatur Herald-Review reports two agents from the state revenue department came to the home of David and Eileen Wetzel in what one state legislator said amounted to "intimidation."

The Wetzels have been asked to post a $2,500 bond to get special licenses as fuel suppliers and receivers, even though they don't fit the state's own definitions. Eileen Wetzel calculated that the bond would cover their motor fuel tax for 51 years. And David Wetzel points out people who use hybrid vehicles are not taxed for their vehicle's electrical use.

I run 1k mile a week on vegie oil and i run through that state every week. I have had DOT scratch there head from the smell and they thought it was cool to see a 1ton pulling 30k on wvo. The Gov will do anything to take our hard earned money. One way or another the gov will find a way to screw us

A felony can be state or federal. They are two different levels of laws. You have state laws that can have felony charges and you have federal laws that have felony charges.

felony
One entry found for felony.

Main Entry: fel·o·ny
Pronunciation: 'fe-l&-nE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -nies
1 : an act on the part of a feudal vassal involving the forfeiture of his fee
2 a : a grave crime formerly differing from a misdemeanor under English common law by involving forfeiture in addition to any other punishment b : a grave crime declared to be a felony by the common law or by statute regardless of the punishment actually imposed c : a crime declared a felony by statute because of the punishment imposed d : a crime for which the punishment in federal law may be death or imprisonment for more than one year

Being that states have statutes that calssify as felonies it neccessarly does not have to be a federal charge to be a felony it can be a state charge as well.

You also have misdameanors as well which is a lesser charge for crimes. There are federal and state misdameanors.

As for these people being fined to pay 2,500 is crazy and if I was them I would appeal it in federal court and walk out a rich man thanks to the state. Then I would be moving to a different state.

If I were these folks in Ill, I'd have to say, PROVE IT! They have to PROVE that you are operating on Veg-Oil on public roads. It's not illegal to produce, transport, or sell veg-oil, so all you really have to say is, "I run veg-oil off road and on PRIVATE property."

Also, why are they felony charges? It's not a federal matter, it's a state matter. If anything, they are in violation of a state law, not a federal law.
I hear ya...

As for felony... I think you got the "f" confused with federal offense. States have felonies too. That would be the greater offense as compared to a misdemeanor.
