thanks alot for the responses. When they dip are they just checking for color? i've "heard" there is a dye that you can put in to make it look like regular diesel.

Initially they are checking for color but they can check the sample chemically if there is any dispute. There are no dyes that will change it that I know of. The stuff takes forever to "wash out" of a fuel system so I doubt it would be that easy to dye it another color. Just out of curiosity, what are diesel prices in Canada? The tax here in NJ is about $0.20 a gallon-not worth the trouble to avoid them. Besides, its like I said-you want the police department to come when your house gets broken into or the fire department to come when your house catches on fire? You pay property taxes. You want the interstate fixed? You pay fuel taxes.

Cheating the Feds out of a few dollars per tank of fuel isn't worth the risk...ask Willy.
I use Vegi oil for fuel, i still pay my road tax (estimated use) but I no longer put money in the pockets of big oil companies, so other than the tax, its free fuel. A very smug feeling!

up here there is no tax on fuel that goes to road repair that i'm aware of. Since the engine is larger than 4.0L i pay the regular registration fee of $250 per year plus a $150 surcharge because the engine is larger than 4.0l. $ 150 is the max charge. It was imposed a couple years ago to all cars/trucks made in 1995 and up. You would not believe the conditions of the roads here in Quebec. Its mind boggling. It is not odd to see a pot hole 6-10 inches deep.

for an american gallon of diesel it costs $3.78 cdn its over $1 per litre now. In the summer it gomes up to $4.15 gallon.( we have the most expensive fuel in north america) Ontario and the other provinces are atleast $ 0.10 per litre less at any given time in the year. Typically more in the summer. My drag car in sig burns 94 octane last july it was $5.67 cdn for a u.s gallon.

I know diesel has been more than gas in the U.S for quite some time. In canada its been like this for the past 5 years maybe. 10 years ago when i had my first 7.3 idi diesel was $0.60 per litre $2.26 cdn per us gallon.

I'm seeing roughly 14mpg with my 95 in sig. 3.55 gears and auto aod. I'm going to check the fuel bowl as i think the injector o rings might be leaking. Truck starts, runs, pulls awesome. I do see a fairly big cloud of blue smoke on the morning start. Once warm i see no smoke even pounding on it. I'm thinking 14mpg for a truck with 3.55 gears and rairley seeing over 2000 rpm is kinda low.

I figure u want to run on #1 for winter that's what we call stove (i work for a petroleum company in quebec) u won't have fuel economy if u plan running on #2 furnace when the temperature will get -20c u fuel will get jelly.
here is my own experience i've try all the fuel
diesel: 750-800km by tank
furnace: 550-625km by tank
stove: 450-500km by tank
on big rigs u can make profit but in small trucks i don't think it worths the trouble
the problem here it's hard to find oil with cetane that's why u don't have fuel economy that's my 2 cents
hope it could help
