Vegi oil collection barrel idea

This is what i am using to collect vegi oil.
It works great, grease thieves can't put a suction hose through the metal grate unless its a very small hose. The valve on bottom is a locking valve. Now of course a thief could take the whole barrel but would likely spill oil everywhere since the lid does not seal to prevent sloshing. Nothing is thief proof but the locking valve is mainly to prevent an accidental opening of the valve by anyone whom might want to see what comes out when they open it.

The lids are balanced when open so they will stay open while the cooks pump there grease but even a slight breeze will shut the lid keeping out rain water.
Its an easy target for the Cooks to hit therefor the barrel stays clean.

the stand is built to the height to allow me to put a cubie under the valve.
The restaurants keep their empty cubies for me to refill once a month when i go collect.
I paid 25 bucks for the lid, 3 bucks for the hing and chain and 16 bucks for the locking ball valve and i think 9 bucks for 4 sq. ft. of expanded metal. Welded it up and painted it. The stand didn't cost me anything as i had some 2x4 lumber already laying around.

I have 5 of these barrels made up with 4 of them in service, one is an extra in case i need it. I collect once a month as it takes my sources that long to fill a barrel. I do have another source that puts the oil in cubies for me and i collect 4 cubies a week every Thursday from them. So thats about 250 ish gal. a month i collect.

very nice, did you make the $25 lid or purchase it? the only alteration i would make, (since i run pho) is swap out the ball valve and make a fitting so i could attach a super sucker. but i have yet to build the sucker.

also, if its ok to ask, where are you finding this good oil? im scrounging for unpaid good oil. they all seem to be paid around here unless they cook with pho.

Yes, it would be simpe to rig up a connection for a sucker hose.
I bought the lids from an outdoor hunting a fishing website. They are deer feeder lids.

I get my oil from 4 different Pizza Hut Wing Street resturants. They fry chicken wings. One other place is a ressturant that frys alot of chicken, fish French frys, fried pickles...etc. Its a sports grill/bar.

nice, ive been looking for an afforable lid! thanks.

i used to have pizza hut, then darling grease came along. same with Arby's. piza huts here use magnesol, which i figure is no biggie.

everyone else seems to use pho. its so irritating. (as you seen by my posts) but i figure ill just have to find a way to ramp up my game so i can run it.

=$53/barrel or $265 for the lot of 5 barrels.......
For a few bucks more, you could have purchased a 6 hp water pump and hose. Whats keeping you from pumping your oil CLay? Surely the temps would almost never be prohibitive in the south? Seems like a lot of work and hassle to put back in cubies. You may want to keep a piece of 1/4 inch round stock handy to unclog the valve. An IBC tote and small pump and you would by set. Just my

Otherwise the work looks real good! Just worried about the elevated stand and a full barrel of oil. If I did that some dipstick little bastard would tip it for sure

I have collected oil every way imaginable. This is by far the least messy and i can fill the cubies from a 40-50 gal full barrel in 10 minutes and i only do it once a month so its not bad at all. With a hose and pump, you end up with oil from the hose draining out into whatever your carrying it in. I used a rubber made tote to keep my honda gas powered pump and 20 feet of garden hose in and the first time i didnt cap of the hose, i had half a gallon of oil in the tote bottom which means the hose and pump ended up covered in oil. You couldn't touch it without getting oil on you or the truck bed. Cleaning up oil is the worst part of this whole endevor so preventing a mess is all you can do. I have had plenty of messes and some large ones (exxon valdez like) and i would not continue this if i had not found this easy method of collection. I have used a vacuume tank and that worked well but there was still potential for mess. Even a few drops of oil in the truck means immediate cleanup or it will dry and turn into the sticky glue like substance on flypaper.
With this method, i go on my lunch hour to one store and collect in my good cloths and theres absolutely no oil on my hands or cloths when done. I say good cloths meaning good jeans and full quill ostrych boots...people think i'm the best dressed oil renderer ever...

what kind of resturant do you have? And if you have waste oil, why are you not converting your rig to burn it?
