It's "technically" the way manufacturers like Road Ranger want you to shift. Basically; you're in a gear, build up to a certain RPM, depress the clutch, shift into neutral, depress the clutch, & shift into the next gear.

hi/low is much better, and then float the gears is much easier and smoother.

what do you think will happen? I have hauled a grove crane that wieghs about 70,000lbs, 100,000lbs including the truck and a D8 cat with a 14 foot wide blade and rippers that wieghs about 85,000lbs, 115,000lbs including the truck and i used the clutch to get moving and then never touch it again till i stop. it just take's some practice and a few miles under your belt. as far as whitch transmission i prefer. i like a 18 speed, most of the time i drive it like it is a 8 speed but it is nice to be able to split the gears when you need too.

double clutching is only needed on "unsyncroed" (sp?) trans

it depends on the gear ratios in the trans/rear end, in my autocars i can go from 9th to 5th if i lug the motor to about 500 RPM in 9th and then rev it to about 2800 RPM and i can go into 5th. on my freightliner i can only downshift 3 gear as the ratios a farther apart (OTR truck) compared to my autocars where i can drop 4 gears because the ratios are closer (onsite truck)

here at work we have a few trucks that are straight, a few that are auto and a few 10 speeds. i like the 10's the best out of all of them. the autos are just plain boring. i think anything thats stick keeps you more alert when you are driving.but i prefer a splitter.
