Go to truck driving forums like Truck Driving Jobs at Trucking Companies - ClassADrivers or Trucker's Dawg House. Alot of good info on them sites. I don't know how much money you are making now but 1st year truck driving is like 35-40k and then 2nd year can be 45-50k. You can top out at around 60k a year. That is peanuts when you are away from your family for weeks at a time and working 70+ hours a week. Just giving you my 2cents. Good luck in whatever you do.
That's my biggest problem. The Rhode Island Operating Engineers abosolutely have nothing going on. & if I transfer to Local 4 Boston, I won't be home too much anyway, considering the travel I'll have to do for most of the jobs Local 4 construction/excavating/drilling jobs are located. @ this point, I don't have a choice & I was looking into becoming a Teamster. I'd rather get into a job where I know there's job security in the north east with slightly lower pay versus waiting for jobs that'll only last a few months. I do appreciate the advice though. I've been going over this many a-time to make 100% sure this is what I want to do.

Ah! Just making sure I wasn't walking into an insult. Yeah, I'd try to drive for a company. There's Over-Nite in the next town over, & a couple of others not too far away.

Great score!! Good Luck. I had to do the same thing. Computer analyst 15 years for the government (civil service contractor) and they closed my military base. Couldn't find a job did the same thing. Drove for a company for 2 years, then bought my own tractor. I am home every night and make way more money than what I was doing, and much happier. Be VERY CAREFUL what company you go drive for. They will tell you anything you want to hear. Schneider, JB Hunt, Swift, there all full of crap. Overnite is good if you can get in. If you have nothing going on the March 19through the 21st weekend. The Mid America Truck show is going on on Louisville. Its the largest all semi show in the worls and have tons of companies looking for drivers and even more vendors. I know it would be a hike, but it is weel worth it. I'll be there. Oh by the way it free. Heres the website for anyone interested.

The 2009 Mid-America Trucking Show

Hope this helps, if you need anything or have any questions, let me know, I have been there done that and have put on 1 million miles to prove it. If I can figure out how to post a picture I will post one of "my Office"

Dan
