The old cats will still be around, theres no doubt about it. Detroit and cummins are the "cats meow" as of now for emissions for 2010. I work on detroits for a living and the new engine almost wants me to look for another job. luckily the epa should be done with us diesels for a while after 2010...

Its something with the amount of engines produced and how many of them meet tier II/III requirments. You can still produce non-EPA compliant engines so as long as you making less than XX% of your total engine production. Its like a 5 step process that if your not making the new EPA complient diesels(100% of the time) then you fall some grace period setup, that all pretty much ends in and around 2010.

I knew it was something like that. We have two Freightliner Coronado's at work, both detroit powered, both with Eaton 13spds and BOTH are constantly in the shop - and i mean on a weekly basis they are getting exhaust filters changed, theyve already had to replace the stacks, and the entire exhaust system, its not uncommon to see flames out the stacks on these trucks... The EPA should leave the truck mfg's alone, and start pestering big business and the railroad ... Lets see EMD and GE Comply

Just like the Boat business, Yamaha/Mercury whom ever can still produce so many 2 Strokes with the credits they have earned with the number of 4 strokes they have produced in the past 3 years.
But credits will be running out in 2010.
