I've drive both a 379 Pete and also a T-2000 Kenworth, both have their strengths, it is just what you want to do. I would go with a 475HP, (With a 13 or 18 speed so you can uprate the HP) or 550 Cat. Other opinions on these, 379/W900, traditional styling, at least a 265 in WB to ride right and tall sleeper, KW 84 inch studio sleeper. These ride pretty well, but the cab is somewhat narrow but still a great truck. Though with the long wheelbase it does take a little more room to manuver these trucks. BUT, if your good enough, it doesn't matter. T-2000/389 These have a wider cab, taller sleeper, setback front axle, somewhat more aerodynamic. Same powertrains as 379s. FYI, if your going to travel the 48 states AND Canada, you can only have a 244 inch WB truck, keep that in mind. |

3406e, 550 with the fueling tables turned up a little. Actually its my dads truck. He said there is a guy with a newer pete with a factory 600 CAT that can't ahng with him on the hills, said the pete had 74K, while dad was at the limit with 79.5K and as close as the pete got was his hood was even with the door before dad started pulling away from him. That was the second time the same guy had tried to out run him. He is looking at getting the pittsburg power chip, and an upgraded turbo. I'm also trying to talk him into getting the turbine housing and exhaust mainfold ceramic coated. I think he might just do it. On edit: Forgot to ask, but what are you running Stray? |

sweet, sounds nice, I like the 06 E, great motor. I have the C15 550hp Cat, 1850 ft/lbs of torque, 18 speed and 3.55s, she's got legs hahaha. Pulls the smasher (7-8% grade for 17 miles) down 2 1/2 gears at the steepest point at 1100 rpm, weighing in at about 75,000, can't believe how well it pulls down there. Gord. |

I'll give this thread a push. If he does get the Pittsburgh puter make sure he asks the Pitts guy if he should turn the stock puter back to stock. A Pitts box will sometimes create too much fueling on a mod stocker. I run a pitts box on a 15.8 Cat marine motor in a 379 Pete that's 800 everyday hp after I changed the turbo and got rid of the waste gate. Makes a 550 seem like a 425. Cat choked the C16 600's turbo down for faster spoolup to meet emmisions. Kinda takes the fun out of trucking.. Not to mention they also killed fuel mileage trying to please the feds.. |

Sounds sweet there Lowboy, haven't run into anyone with the Pits box on their truck up here, but have done some reading on it. The truck in my avitar is a 06e 475, pumped up to 525, and capable of 550. but Cat told me the crank would not hold up to any more than that. I suppose they are right if not driven correctly, but if you are rolling into it rather than jumping on it, I can't see it damaging the crank, but I am no mechanic. What are your thoughts on this. Gord. The C 15 refered to in the other post is in the 05 Pete 379 I have, the 900L has the 06E in it. Last edited by straycat : 07-08-2007 at 10:43 AM. |
