When I first started driving hauling machinery for a JD dealer, I'd have to back off of the road and up some narrow farm driveways, sometimes up to a 1/4 mile long. Once I got it lined up, I'd get it in HIGH reverse and really roll up a driveway.

that sounds like a pretty good gig. Everytime I see a new JD combine on a lowboy I get a little pride through me, they make 'em in my hometown

One of the main things to remember when backing up is not to get in a hurry. Take your time and get it right rather than get in a hurry and screw something up.
As far as GPS, I use one but just as a reference, not as a navigator, use maps as well ( my GPS is designed for big trucks but still tries to send me down roads that are load zoned or have low bridges ).

I am SERIOUSLY considering getting my CDLs. My grandfather drove from 55 to 88 with not so much as a ticket! I have always wanted to drive a rig. Can't wait to get it all squared away and do it! These stories make me laugh and I hope I don;t have to many of the 'newb' stories although I know I will lol

When you can put a 53' trailer on a dock that only has 57' of pad in front of it on the first try.

Boy I can relate to what everyone is saying, I have had my CDL for over 9 years and I love it. Being part time you get all the leftover runs and the ones others don't want to do. Try backing a pup off a main street in Boston into a building and in between two dumpsters at 6:00 at night.I used to do that twice a week.I still enjoy driving a truck over working in a office all day.

usually in the form of a paycheck, every two weeks i would guess. when you take the check to the bank, it turns into cash money. :
