6.0 vs 5.9

So last night I was texting a guy I haven't seen since high school just comparing notes on our trucks. He's got a Dodge quad cab long box with a 5.9L Common Rail and 6 speed tranny. He was a little vague on the details, but it sounds like a turbo and injectors, etc. which he said puts down 500rwhp. My truck is an 03 6.0L with a Powermax and 190s (mods in sig), but its never been on a dyno.

He, of course, made some cracks about towing me home when the 6.0 breaks lol so we agreed to a friendly race when he is back in town. He thinks I'd take him from a dig but that he'd pull away from a roll. What do you guys think?

Well I am pretty sure that my truck will lauch quicker than his; but from a roll, I wonder if having the manual will give him an advantage. I know this guy is a very good driver.

From a roll is very different than from a stop

Yeah, I think the manual will give him an advantage since he'll be able to build boost while rolling and have it in a lower gear to not have to downshift once we go...

Yeah rolling he'd take you I'm sure, good torque plus manual will make it tough to beat. But from a standstill you should have no problem getting half a length or more on him unless he really knows how to drive a stick and has a good clutch.

I'll tell ya what. I met a guy at the local track w/ a "500hp common rail cummins", rolling coal all over the place, meaty tires etc... and a 6.0 w/ sct and injectors literally walked him like a lame dog.... and the 6.0 had VERY little smoke, stock exhaust, etc. If you look on diesel bombers I made a post about this last summer

http://www.*************.com/94-98-7...3-today-5.html

Just replace the **** with diesel bombers.

This is true. Put it into a lower gear to hold the rpms if your gonna race from a roll. Then drop it back into drive.
