If the fed wants to give me $4,500 to trade the 2000 in on a new scorpion F550 4x4, who am I to tell them no? I want one anyways. Just wonder if it applies to medium duty trucks like the 550, and if it'll be around when the scorpion comes around...

If you don't have a clunker but are interested in the program, I'll sell you my POS Chevy (runs & drives good) for $500, and you can get your $3500 or $4500 voucher. Everybody is a winner (except the taxpayer).

The way I read it, the most you could get with a 3/4 ton or higher truck would be 3500 since all the other vouchers require specific mileage ratings, and there are no rating on the bigger trucks.

Check this:
CARS FAQ

I've read a couple of articles about how this won't work the way they think. We'll see.

This is more like a loan than a tax credit isn't it. You have to pay it back over time. Like the $8000 you get for first time home buyer. $500 a year for 16 years....
