NY diesel inspection change as of July 1,2012

There is a new inspection law for New York state diesel owners. After July !st, all 1997 and newer diesel vehicles will be subject to an OBD II emissions inspection along with the safety inspection.. Of course the fee will double. Details are still sketchy , after repeated calls to the NYSDOT and the clean air commission , not one person can give me any details as to what the inspection will cover. Will it detect a performance chip or programmer and fail the inspection ? Will a check engine light fail an inspection? Who knows? One thing that is for certain is any emissions equipment that the vehicle came with from the factory will need to be in place.
I have an appointment tomorrow for my inspection even though its not due until the end of October. This way I have a year to find out what this is all about. I will post any new info tomorrow.

According to this search it obtains to passenger cars 8500lbs or less, so hopefully were in the clear

ill keep my $12 inspection as long as possible NYS rapes us for registration anyways give me a break, no wonder NYS has the highest rate of people leaving. Gov't wants us unemployed if they didnt they would open up hydro fracking here as long as Chucky, Hillary, and Cuomo homo and his minion Gillybean are around this state will continue to steal from us, and limit what we can have and yes that means guns and big gulps.

So as long as my tail pipe isn't in the cops window i should be OK? Knock on wood i haven't had any problems with my whistle pig yet.

Read it right off the nys dmv website, its 8,500GVW and below are now subject to emissions inspection, and 8501GVW registered in the DEMA "diesel emissions metropolitan area" aka the counties of NY city. Got my vehicle inspected today and it was the standard $10 safety and they knew nothing of these new rules. Will worry about it next year
