cummins swap

will a zf6 bolt up to a 12 valve cummins?

wife has been hating all day on my old 7.3 excursion. i have been thinking of a 12 valve swap. buddy of mine has one on a pallet waiting for its chance to be swapped into his k5 but he now needs the money. told me 1200 and i can have it. i do loathe the 4r100 so i was thinking zf6. i have seen these bolt up to the chevy 5.3L engines. what do you guys think?

I've seen Allison's go out under 200k as well , and a rebuilt one is $$ to the tune of any of any good 4r100 replacement anyway. Is it 4wd ? If so what's involved from tranny to transfer case to turning in to rear end / front end again when cost is all said and done. I'd probably go the easy route and by a bargain BTS / JW someone has for sale and put a chip on the 7.3 , sounds like you already got the go ahead , what does she have to complain about ? If complaining or harshing is being done that's just an open invitation to SPEND !!!!

she drove my work 2011 f450 and loved the power of the newer truck. she daily drives my LS stroker truck so she has a need for speed though she will never admit it. the other day she packed the kids in the EX and called me to say she thought something was wrong with it that it didnt have any power. i would much rather put a zf6 in it but she would prefer an auto. to be honest its going to be expensive either way. if i could do it my way i would drop a gen 1 cummins in it backed by a 6 speed manual.

That's your problem right there. You're letting her compare old diesel to new diesel. And if the Ex isn't tuned, a proper chip will do it wonders. In stock form the 7.3 is a slow ox. Tunes really wake them up. While it won't be drag fast, it'll put quite the pep in it's step.

i have a TS 6 position chip with CT performance tunes, 4" turbo back magnaflow exhaust, diy air filter for performance and a BDS 6" lift with fox shocks and 35's. im not looking for stupid fast but i would like even more torque for pulling the 3 horse trailer we have.i was thinking a WW2 and a water meth kit would help.

I was just looking at engines again earlier on Austin CL and someone had a 98 Cummins mated to a 6 speed in a 97 F-550 , were asking 1500 or maybe it was 1200 for the set up , said runs and drives.

My PIS 175/80's and 38r with WW2 really woke my truck up. Unless you have tranny problems, get a valve body and 6.0 cooler and see how she does.
