What is this part?

Just got me an 01 Excursion. thank you big G for the blessing of the 7.3

SO. I have never had a vehicle this new before. So far most of it is pretty straight forward. I was crawling under it when I saw this thing. Seems to have no purpose what so ever.

Just sort of hangs there from the trans cross member. Looked like there was something similar just above the rear D shaft, but didn't get a pic of that one.

So does this thing have a reason, or is it safe to chuck it?

I'm a Diesel man. I care about torque, boost, and EGTs. The truck is just an accessory to carry my engine around.

The pic you posted is terrible... but your description is great. If it's anything like ours, I took it to be part of the trans mount or some type of vibration damper.

The Excursions have several odds and ends that the trucks do not in effort to deaden sound and vibrations... guess thats what makes them 'luxury suvs'... what your seeing is likely one of thoes items. Haven't looked at it close enough to say if you can/should remove it...

it looks like a guard.
the 4x4's have a metal guard that hangs down
yours is 2wd so id say its just a guard for the trans.

Nah, it's 4wd. can't tell what it would be guarding.

Whats wrong with my pic? I'm no doctor, but it even has a red square around the part.

Okay. I'll work on my cellular telephone photography skills.

I think I'm going to take it off. At least get a better idea of what it is.

Ya I think it actually may hold the Trans mount together so it can move a bit so it's smoother, I've done many miles off road with no issues hitting it or things like that, I see no reason to remove it but what ever floats your boat.
