03 7.3 Excursion vs. 05 6.0 Excursion

Greetings.......

I have been weighing my options and have read many posts about the good and bad of both Ex's. With that being said, if my primary use of the Ex is to tote people, tow a 5000lb 22 foot camper 4-5 weekends a summer, never chip or tune it, Would I be safe with either engine? or stay with one or the other and why??

In the previous post you had talked about getting the truck to 400,000 miles. With you wanting that i'd suggest going when the 7.3 because the motor will cost you less in the long run.

I agree.....but I have had an easier time of finding much nicer 05's with the 6.0....If the 6.0 is not pushed beyond its means, kept stock......is it a reliable option?

I wouldn't trade my 7.3 for one ever

BUT my mechanic has an 05 250 with the 6.0, he loves it and would suggest it, if you'd like i could pm you their number and you could call and talk to them, (its two guys who both have them)

If you buy a 7.3 = keep $5000 in the bank for a transmission.

If you buy a 6.0 = keep $5000 in the bank for bulletproofing the motor.

Our Excursion has 272k miles on it and what I believe is the original trans... it can happen. I concider my self lucky every time it goes into gear!

Cousin-in-law's 6.0 needed head studs oil cooler and egr delete even with light use and less than 80k miles... no chip or tuner.

Personally I would go for a 7.3

Ohhh my 7.3 brothers are gonna hate me ....
Nice excursions are expensive plain and simple , so if your looking at an expensive Ex why not look for a studded / deleted 6.0 IMO. Put some tunes on it , doesn't mean you have to dog it but the power is there if you need it or want it. Also the factor of a quieter engine.

I have had a 7.3L before (not in a Ex). But I wouldn't get rid of the 6.0L for a 7.3L. I love the my 6.0L. No I'm not stock by any means but I love the thing. Like said before trans for the 7.3L or bullet proof for the 6.0L.
