Hi everyone, I am new to the forum, I have a 2000 Excursion diesel with a 7.3 engine. I have a handling problem that comes and goes but has gotten worse this week.
I replaced both wheel bearing units with Timken last weekend and the handling is significantly better, but if I turn the wheel tight in either direction, the steering wheel will not center and the front tires will turn either direction slightly so I am always correcting it.
The truck has 185k and I think it could be the steering box, I've never adjusted it, never needed to until now. I wonder how much difference adjusting the box will make or if I should I just replace it. Maybe the valve controlling the power steering pressure is hanging up or defective. I want to know if the box is something I could buy used or are the boxes problematic. oops sorry the truck is stock height and tire size running bf goodrich ko bone stock. thank you regards,Erich
