Lets talk trannys

Hey guys, well I'm sad to say that I don't think that my trans has much left in her. Its starting to feel like its engaging and disengaging when I'm going 45 mph (just shifts into 4th) Talked to a trans guy today and he says thats a sign that the end is coming, so two questions,

1 is he right? or do I just need a fluid change (its about that time as I'm coming up to 200,000 miles)

2 What is the bullet proof option, he was talking about a beefier version of the stock one (2001 7.3l) what are you guys replacing with? Tho i would love to going manual is just not a good idea for me and my Ex, considering that someday it will be the family hauler I want it to be drivable by everyone. So ya need some help

The stock trans usually doesn't make it to 200k so I wouldn't bother putting any money in it. The bulletproof options are John Woods or Brians Truck Shop, go with whichever is closer. You will also want to upgrade the cooling so it lasts, look into a 6.0 cooler.

With these options how many miles should I get out of a new Trans?

go to a reputable trans shop that are knowledgible with ford tranny's. there are numerous free upgrades, $ inexpensive upgrades also. billet converter, full rebuild , quality shift kit,027 accumulator spring,(free upgrades better oiling, etc.) 6.0 cooler, keep the fluid changed every 15,000-ish and you should get 150,000 out of it. kep it cool and maintained and I will last along time. cost me $2,100 for all mentioned above including steel planetary upgrade and r&r of transmission. should reliably handle 400h.p. for along time.

welp as of know seems like i just was imagining something, I'm just going to keep it, it still shifts solid and seems like its ok for now, ill get my fluid changed, its that time and then see how far i can get out of her, thanks guys, and cary, ill hit you up when it decides to actually go.

giggidy... pre op or post op? oh sorry wrong tranny. i plan to upgrade mine to a zf6 when the 4r100 dies. i dont have near the coin for a BTS trans. you are going to be out the door at 5 grand shipped. you could do a zf6 for half that. just my opinion.
