The fix for a big whip like that slapping the body is to stick a tennis ball on it.

Doing this requires the antenna to be rematched to the radio after the tennis ball has been installed. Also if that ball slides up and down on the antenna it causes the matching to change. I have found that a raquet ball works just as good but it does not slide on the antenna.

no way jose, do you think i would do that to my 30K truck, she is way to purdy for that, it does not touch the tailgate, you cant really notice from that pic but the "antannae" can be mounted into several positions other than straight up and down.

see the mark on the ball, it actually splits in two, you put it together with the screw and tighten it down, but twist it in any direction for your desired position.
if you notice here in the second pic, this is a flat level pic, i have the ball positioned back in it's set position that it will not touch the tailgate, i have to sling it way back by hand to get it to do that, but the tailgate protector on top prevents it from getting tore up. the ball came from Radio Shack for $18.00

I like the idea of doing it on the ball, but I don't think I can do that on my EX. Now I have to go look, but I think thats just a plain plastic piece there. And i don't think I'd want to have my hitch in all the time...hmmm.
Well for Mothers day my husband showed up with a cb, and a fiberglass antenna that is similar to the Firestik. His plan is to put in on my rear bumper. I read so much about how that's no good. This is his first experience buying a CB for a passenger vehicle, and we are both a little lost. How much will it hurt performance if he mounts it to my rear bumper? How much does that really differ from a hitch ball?

If you are looking for a simple antenna for a basic cb setup, not tweaked up and so forth, Radio Shack sells a window mount antenna setup for cb. It looks like the old cell phone antennas about 14" ling with a stick mount, and on inside stick mount with the coax to the cb. Works fine for simple setup and the whip is easily removed from the mount for car washes etc. I had one and it worked fine, putting it down on say the back glass will be an easy way to accomodate clearance..

One thing you need to know,...not all antenna s will work,...people think CB's are "plug &play" ....they definitely aren't....

#1 most important thing....make sure your SWR's are calibrated....people that don't calibrate either got REAL lucky,....or their CB's don't perform anywhere near as good as they should.

Worst case scenario....if you don't calibrate,...you'll burn out your radio,...maybe not immediately...but it WILL happen.

An antenna has to be grounded just like the radio. Some people will say that when the coax is plugged into the radio that is sufficient and its not. So therefore a plastic bumper mount is out unless the bracket is grounded with a separate wire and that can be a headache. Keep it looking good and try not to look like a Billy Big Rigger. It doesnt sound as if you are going to be using it for nothing more than entertainment on the highway and believe me you'll be entertained. Keep the install simple and looking inconspicious with out drawing attention. The window mount will be fine. It has a small wire attached for the ground that can be secured with an inside trim screw etc.
