Disappointed in fuel mileage while towing

Tow vehicle:

2001 excursion 4wd, 285 bfg all terrain's, 4" magnaflow turbo back, AIS intake, PHP tunes.

Travel trailer is 28ft and roughly weighs 7500lbs loaded.

Do between 65 and 70 I averaged 8.2 mpg. On the return trip I did 75 and got 8mpg. I would think I should get atleast 10mpg doing 65 to 70. I sold a suburban because it got 8mpg. Granted the excursion pulls better, but I still expect better mpg. Where do I start? Or does the mpg sound right.

Thanks - Shaun

I have gauges. PHP tunes. I can build 25psi boost. I'm lost on what it might be. I'm going to check ebp and go from there I guess.

Hand calculated. The excursion only has 118,000 miles on it. I am the second owner. It's been maintained well. The original owner used stanadyne for every gallon he said. It has a turbo temp monitor so the engine does not shut off until the turbo has cooled down. I need to find someone with a good scanner that can run some test and see how everything is operating. Thanks for the replies.

Thanks - Shaun

How's the fuel mileage unloaded (not towing)?

I just took a trip about 385 miles. I would say 70 percent highway 30 percent stop and go. I topped it off and hand calculated was 14.8mpg. Before the trip I cleaned the EBP tube, it was about 30 percent blocked. It took some work to get weedeater line through it. I have definitely noticed the accelerator pedal is more responsive. My wife even noticed the difference when she drove it. Any more suggestions before I find someone to hook up a good scan tool?

Thanks - Shaun

That scan tool that Timmy linked is nice... I don't like being dependent on someone else when I have the means and the way-with-all to do it myself. To old to change now...

...just sayin'

What are your egt's while towing? Those mileage numbers sound like me towing two jeeps across Nevada to Rubicon, when my egt's are pegged. I just pulled a 26' "parachute" (very tall enclosed trailer) to Wyoming and back, 8ish on the way there, 10 on the way back. With the heavier loads, I spend more time with OD locked out to keep the egt's lower. Towing one jeep, I get 10ish.

For reference, highway at 75ish is 15, around town is 11.
