excursion interior lights problem

I have an 2002 with a 7.3. I have a weird problem with the interior lights. After the truck sits for a while and you unlock the doors the interior lights won't come on. It acts like you left a interior lights on and the battery saver switched. You have to put the key in the ignition and then it will reset. It works properly when you first cut the truck off. Can anyone advise the problem
