My biggest deal is to be able to get into parking garages yet get the front end off the bump stops! I'm going to add a sway bar in the rear, too as I know that should stop the hippy hippy shake when I load it up with gear and fuel. Will the SD sway bar and attachment brackets fit with the Ex?

I found a rear antiroll bar specifically for the excursion.

By far the best mods though were the V code front springs and the rear air bags. I plumbed them into a 7gallon tank to soften the spring rate of the bags. I got the idea from bruce1954 at tds. I usually run them at 20-30 lbs and it rides great. I pump them up to 50 or so to tow.

With 285's and V codes, my X was at 82" or so. With 315's, I fit in my 84" garage with an inch or so to spare, depending on how pumped up my bags are.

I test drove about 20 X's before I bought mine, and the lifted ones drove the best by far. Getting up off the bumpstops makes all the difference.

So I am on the hunt for the V code springs, a rear roll bar for sure, and this modified rear spring has my interest as well. I was even tossing around the idea to install traction bars for the rear. I am not a fan of the half leaf traction bars the factory installed. Just doesn't seem to efficient.

Modified rear spring? I found the stock X springs to be too soft, especially with a trailer. That's why I went with the bags.

I didn't bother with the traction bars. I all but ordered traction bars but thought I'd try it out without them first...that was 3 years ago and still don't see a need. I spend a fair amount of time driving on dirt roads...rutted, washboard, snotslick, or all of the above. I also tow a jeep. Haven't seen a need.

I'll be doing some go faster stuff soon, I wonder if I'll change my mind.

That's good to hear because I could use the money elsewhere.

You don't mod the rear spring you mod a SD "B" code truck spring. The SD 30mm rear sway bar is cheap, big and bolts right in. I don't see the need for traction bars either but then I don't take off so quick as to get wheel hop.
One other thing that really helps is wider rims..9-10" and 12.5" wide tires.

I went down to the local 4x4 lift places to look for spring take-offs...and happened to see a guy in a sky high F350 at 4 Wheel Parts. He obviously wasn't running an add-a-leaf so I asked him if he still had his take offs and if he knew if they were U or V codes. He did, but of course he didn't know, so I looked on the tag inside his door and it showed V codes. Later, when I got to his place, he had some other springs from an F250 too, and didn't know which was which. I paid him $100 for the lot and took them all. The other ones are still in my garage...gotta get rid of them.

What do you have to modify on the rear "B" code spring?
