Keyless entry and keypad code update?

We just bought a pristine 2000 Excursion , although we only received a single key and remote. My question is whether the driver's door keypad can be re-programmed? Also, are the remotes and in-car receiver re-programmable to new codes as most typical garage door openers are?

Thanks!

Rob

As far as I know the keypad should be programable. They have a "Master number" locked into them. Once you get that, there is a procedure from there where you can put in your own code. As for the other electronics (garage door openers), they too are programable, not sure on that though. I could be mistaken though, but a dealer should probably be able to get the info and codes for you with your VIN. Anybody welcome to correct any errors.

You need the factory code to program a new code for the keypad. If you dont already have it, you will need to have it pulled at the dealer.

Your excursion probably has PATS, which means the keys are about 35 bucks give or take....and you have to have two programed keyes to program any more yourself. if you wish to have more keys, you will need to have the dealer program one more for you, then its reccomended to get a third one and program it yourself.

The FOBS are easy to program. Get in, hit unlock on the switch...then turn the key from off to run (not start) eight times repetedly. On the eighth time, make sure to stop in the run position. The locks will also cycle. Then hit the lock or unlock button on the fob and it will be programmed...

I dont know how to program the garage door openers though...

Thanks for the replies thus far. Don't sweat the garage door openers, though. I was basically saying that I know they can be programmed (and I've done it before), but was wondering if keyfobs and door keypads on the Fords can be similarly re-programmed by the user and it sounds as though they can. Thanks, again!

I have a 2003 excursion. When I went to upload a superchip my chip programmer said it was resetting pats and now the theft light blinks and the truck will not start. Can I reset the keys this same way as you are talking about. "Turning key 8 times"

There is a master code that can not be re-set.. You have two options for getting the code.. On a 02 or newer you can look at the little black box behind the radio either by looking up from the floor and using a mirror, looking in where the trash bag holder is (not easy), removing the radio or pulling off the fuse door and trying from the side with a flashlight.. I used the mirror and it took about 90 seconds to get it adjusted and see it.. 5 digets clear as day in big bold black numbers, that's your code..

On a pre-02 X you have one 20 minute option.. The De Bruijn sequence!! It's 3125 numbers that WILL unlock your door.. Once it's ulocked backtrack 5-10 numbers and start from there until you figure out what 5 didgets did it.. Not fun but you can do it quicker then going to the dealer..

Here's the link to the number and info you need to do this!

Maybe a little redundent, but the black box may be hidden by the white insulation. Just pull down the diver side glove box and release the tabs so it drops all the way down. I moved the brake controller out of the way by removing it. There is a small clip on top. then the control module box is mounted to the fire wall and has three large wiring harnesses conected to it. Mine was hidden with the white insulation. the code is written in large letters in black print on the white tag.

Works great

I've tried it on my Ford Explorer Sport 2001, and it works like a charm.
Saved me 98$.
