Has anyone put 18" wheels on a stock Excursion without any suspension or lift mods. (vehicle is never off road)

Looking to install 18" Aluminum wheels and some TBD tire combination. Do I need to keep the circumference as close to stock as possible so the rev/mile will not impact the vehicles speed reading?

Comments from those who have installed 18" wheels would be appreciated. Thanks

Tony

I have 18" rims with 275/70/R18 tires on my EX - no lift, not rubbing works great.

Now in my calculations, these are 33" tires so they are not too close to stock (stock I think is 31"??)

You can use the links on this thread to figure out where you would stand with the specific rim and tire combo's you would like to run --> http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/99.../37760-tire-size-markings-what-does-mean.html

Mine came with the tires it has now, but when I get new tires, I'll more than likely try and get something a little closer to stock size.

Just for fun (I like using the first link) here is what the stock vs what I have looks like numbers wise. First number is stock, 2nd is my tire.

I was told within 3% is the limit before recalibration is needed.

I've actually wanted to do this for a while so thanks for the excuse to do this ;)

That tire is pretty dang close (close enough), but I'm not sure I'd want a 65 series tire (ride would suffer me thinks).

You'll be fine. I put 20's on mine, and it did require a 1 inch lift in the front to stop the rubbing. Actually I doubt I would have needed that if I hadn't put on such a wide tire. My rims are 11" deep, and the tire is about 12". Had I not gone so wide, maybe i would have been fine.

the biggest difference in what size tires you can run is in what offset or backspacing the wheels are.with a 18X8-8.5 4-4.5" BP wheel you can run 33" tires very easily but now if you have a 18X10 with the same BP you will drop in tire size to keep them from rubbing so if you don't want to wide of a tire do a 18X8-8.5 wheel and then run a 275-65R18..just my thoughts
