Looking at Excursion 7.3L/have questions
Hello
I came across a 00 Excursion with 200K miles from a dedicated diesel truck owner. He had it 9 months but wants to downsize. He said the 4x4 didn't work and he replaced it with Manual Warn locking hubs. I understand that I have to get out to switch them and that won't always be convenient in the snow patches here or on the boat ramps. I was wondering could I have the Ford parts put back on to have it back to operating it from the cab? Also on start up he says it produces white smoke for a few minutes and thinks it is either a O ring on a injector, glow plug or glow plug relay. What does white smoke at start up mean? He says it will do this when it isn't plugged up on a cold day otherwise there is no smoke. Any mods that are recommended for a modest performance increase with better efficiency (mpgs)? I was thinking a better exhaust, air intake or filter and some tuner. It will be occassionally driven empty and a part time tow vehicle for a 8K and 9K trailer. |

The hubs are all manual. There was never an 'auto locking' hub switch for inside the cab.
The inside switch is just to enable to vacuum pump to engage/lock the up hub when turned on and the selector for the transfer case for 4hi/lo. When it's cold out - a little bit of white smoke is normal on initial start up for the first few min's or so until it's warmed up. As for towing - best out of the box mods are either the 6637 filter upgrade 'or' the ZooDad mod if still using the stock airbox. Then - upgraded exhaust. Diamond eye, or MBRP 4in from the turbo back will be all you need. I wouldn't even consider a tuner or chip until you have some aftermarket gauges in, and have driving the vehicle for a while to make sure it's ready, and solid enough to take on some tunes or a chip. |
