wrong computer

My son took his 2002 ex in to have new keys programmed and there telling him that the computer is from a ranger and they cant program the keys. Does anybody have any idea how this is possiable or how it would still run???

ECU as in Engine Control Unit? I don't see how thst is possible, especially if you EX is a PSD. Do you have any more info?

all i know is that they tried to prgram new keys and the cumpter comes up as a ranger,i dont know which computer there talking about

I think its the bcm/bcu, they said the cp that controls the chipped keys

Now there telling me its the pcm. It says its a 2.3 ranger

See if you can talk to the technician instead of the service writer. This isn't making a whole lot of sense to me. You may need to show up in person to talk instead of calling. You said this all started over programming keys. Is it the actual key or the remote/key fob that you are talking about? Does the vehicle still run and drive?

I too don't see how that is at all probable or even remotely possible. There is no way it would start. You can't even get a SD to run correctly with a PCM out of a OBS PSD much less a 4 or 6 cyl gasser.

BTW, I was told when I asked at my dealer that it was the GEM / PATS modules that controlled the keyless entry. I lost my second key about 2 months after buying my Ex in 02 and wanted another key but Ford wanted about $180.00 for just another key.. I have had one key since.

Go to a locksmith, I know there are good locksmith's that do this
