Test Drove An X. Weird Shifts?

Hey guys! I got a call about this dealer that had a 2000 Excursion. 7.3L, 4x4, Limited, absolutely BEAUTIFUL! 100K on the clock. I took it for a drive and first thing I notice is how hard the tranny shifted. It slammed into gear, and bogged down the engine for a few seconds until it caught up. It did this through 2nd and 3rd. 4th wasnt so bad. Downshifted fine. The sales person said "They all do that, you just gotta drive it hard". So we took it out on the road and I hammered it and it shifted 100% better! Whats goin on here? Does it have a shift kit? I didnt see a tuner but maybe its been tuned to shift WAYYY early or somethin? I dont wanna buy it if the trannys goin out

the one i'm in (03) and my '00 both do it when shifting from 2nd to 3rd.
I chalked it up to be a low point in the power band? both of mine have/had had tunes flashed on them.

it has a lot to do with the tuners increasing trans oil pressure during shifts, i think.

I'm sure someone more trans savvy than me will chime in soon though.

most of em are just flashes. You plug the thing in and 20 mins later it's tuned. and 20 mins more and you can flash it back to stock.

Send a message via Yahoo to Dave
If its got a banks kit on it its probably got their plug in ICP fooler otherwise known as the 6 gun on it.

Without the switch you wont see. it.

But that will explain the harsh shifts as it does not tune the transmission

I would think yes. It's bound to be tuned, and the tune is making it shift that hard. Mine does not shift that hard. And it has a superchips programmer. Whatever tune is in it, is making it do it.
