Cold Start noise? No Power!

I was noticing that when I start the EX in the morning it is pritty loud. I makes like a hissing sound or kind of sounds the way it would if you where to put your hand over the ehaust pipe. I am new to the Diesel world so this might be normal? It also has noooo power till that noise goes away!

I have my X that is a 2001. It sounds like a freight train on cold starts. It will feel down on power until she heats up but is not. I recommend when you cold start her in the morning let her idle for 5-10 mins to get warm.

It's normal. What is happening is the truck senses that it is cold outside and closes the Exhaust Back Pressure valve to aide in warming up. The EBP valve sits between the turbo and exhaust down pipe. It should return to normal once the truck warms up or you go above ~2000 RPM.

Ya, I normally do let her sit for about 8-10 min but the other day I was in a hurry and gave it only 2 minutes. Is there a valve or something that makes it sound like that?
