Wheels, intake, exhaust, chip, cts for my new X.
Hello All, I have spent countless hours lurking here, and the web trying to find my '02 EX and my mods. I've spent the last 2 weekends putting everything on. VERY big thanks goes out to Cary, at CT Performance for his knowledge, and outstanding pricing on my upgrades. So heres what I ended up with:
4" MBRP stainless turbo back Stage 2 AFE cold air intake TW 6 position chip (tow, hi idle, econo, daily, race, extreme) Edge Insight CTS (color touch screen monitor only not a programmer) Expandable exhaust temp. probe. 2" steel wheel adapters by Fred Goeske '07 F250 Harley Edition 20" wheels. John Wood accumulator/valve body. Suspension and face lift to follow after the savings account gets a break. All went well, a few codes to figure out with new chip, a little disapointed no coolant temp. through OBD port. Hopefully edge will come out with a probe for that since I have the expandable option. Thanks for looking, I am hooked!

Which MBRP kit did you end up going with? (muffler, no muffler) I am going to go with a 4" turbo back exhaust for my Excursion, but I'm not too sure which kit to kit. Lots of options out there. I don't want that dreaded drone that some people can't stand.

I have the S6204409 "XP Series" The drone is not much more than stock with the muffler on. The muffler is directional which would make the drone worse if installed backwards. It does produce some interesting sounds compared to the OEM muffler. The turbo whistle is great, the exhaust "flutter" is a little annoying, and the exhaust note is great at WOT. The flutter from what I have read is inherant to the 7.3 when a straight through muffler is used, the 6.0 sounds very nice with this exhaust.

Very nice looking Excursion! Did you have to do any suspension modifications before changing rims? What size are the tires? Is that 2" steel wheel adapter a spacer?

Thank you! They are the steel spacers/adaptors and I'm using the stock tires which are 275/65/20. I plan on upgrading to the v and b code springs eventually for better ride/look. The tires rub a little on the wheel well plastic.
The adapters bolt to the existing lug bolts, and have new bolts for the wheels, so it's just a spacer with new lugs. Very big key to them is that they are "hub centric". The adapter centers itself on the hub not the bolts, and same for the rims. I should have had the adapter bolts made with the same threads as the newer wheels so I could of used the chrome lug nuts to match the Harley center caps Last edited by monstercourier; 04-07-2011 at 05:07 PM. |
