OK to replace 10.5" with 10.25" Ring and Pinion?
My Sterling 10.5" in the Excursion needs a rebuild.
Seems everyone sells the 10.25" setup to replace the 10.5". Common practice. 10.5" R&P are near $600 from Ford. Any reason I would not want to go ahead with the 10.25" R&P rebuild? Last edited by Slippery; 02-06-2011 at 08:52 AM. |

I have heard that you can put a 10.25 in a 10.5 carrier to allow for more oil. I don't know if having the extra capacity out ways the larger gears.

Well after geting into the spindle bearings, one has been spinning and has worn the spindle badly, and design does not allow replacement? WTH!
I guess I will buy a used axle from the salvage yard with same gears. What should I pay for a used Sterling 10.5"? |
