For what it's worth...I had an 04 F-250 with the 6.0. That thing was truely a POS. I bought it in Mar 07 and that day, the VGT solenoid went out, causing me to limp to the nearest dealer. Two weeks later, it was back in the shop for an EGR issue. I eventually sold the truck in Jan 08, because it spent about 4 months in the shop. I managed to sucker a dealership with the truck and traded it for an 05 F-150 KR while I went on the hunt for an Excursion with a 7.3.
I found that Excursion back in June, traded my wife's sport trac for it and have no intentions of getting rid of it until the frame rusts out from under me. The 7.3 is a much stronger motor and is a helluva lot more reliable that the 6.0. When my 6.0 was having issues, an IHC rep came down to the Ford dealer and told me outright that 1 of every 4 6.0's in 04 was a "bad" motor from the factory with nothing but EGR issues.
I wish my 02 Ex had the 5 speed Auto that the 04 6.0 has, but I'll take the 4 speed behind a 7.3 over the 6.0 any day.
