Transmission issue

I happened to be out of town when the light for the over drive began flashing, and the trans was having trouble going into second gear. The RPM were up around 3500/4000 before it would switch. I ended up taking it to a large Ford dealership near Gettysburg PA and having it diagnosed. Here is what the tech wrote on the invoice.
"Test drove vehicle, completed transmission diagnostics, retrieved multiple fault codes from computer including, incorrect gear ratio and 1-2 shift error, transmission has internal problem and would need to be overhauled or replaced, advised customer that vehicle should not be driven until repair is complete."
All the cost me $139.95.
They wanted $3800.00 for a trans installed but couldn't do it till mon or tues, which my schedule didn't allow.
I ended up draining enough fluid so I could put in 36oz of Lucas trans fix. I just made the 400mi nonstop trip from Pa to OH with an improvement in shifting. The truck shifted as normal. I will still be seeing a local mechanic in the morning to have the problem further looked at as I think the Lucas was a temporary fix. It did save me a tow bill though.
Does anyone have any advice on the tranny issue? I have a 2001 7.3 EX 81K

1-2 shift error was the only code they noted on the report, but he did type there were multiple codes.

Could be some trash in the 1-2 shift solinoid. A complete fluid change with filter could fix your problem. You might have bigger problems but a trans flush is a cheaper way to try and fix.
