crank but wont start, HELP ME

2003 excursion 7.3 I got diesel at a station. I drove away and got 2-3 miles and it died. After sitting for about 30 mins, it started then slowly seemed to run out of fuel. I changed the fuel filter ( the bowl does fill with diesel). Cranks but to fire. Does anyone have any ideas. Is there a primer, etc. Does cranking it hurt the injectors, if they are dry

lift pump ??? mine just went out two weeks ago...no warning or anything...just died and would crank afterwords , started up again but no power whatsoever then died again till it just would do nothing other than turn over.
