might buy an excursion

whats going on guys. first post here. hopefully many more. my friends dad is selling his 2000 excursion 7.3, 4x4. i want it but i dont know much about them. it has about 200k on it and in pretty good shape. the only thing that i know is wrong with it is it shifts pretty hard first to second gear. not sure what it could be. he's been driving it for a while. let me know what you guys think. it will really nice to have to tow my jeep around to trails and have room for my kids and dogs inside (two great danes).

Welcome to the site. Excursions are great, however they are a turd in stock form. I would chip it, new gauges, DIY intake and maybe address the exhaust. The transmission seems to be the weak link in all the Powerstrokes but can be fixed. I really like mine now that I have done the mods a talked about. They are known to go many many miles with the correct maintenance. I had a Tahoe and really liked it but the Ex is awesome!! How much is your friend asking for the truck?

i'd buy another one if i needed it!! tranny is no big deal if you have some money set aside and get the x for a reasonable price. 200k isnt that bad.. before i got mine i was looking at one with 202k and it ran just as good as mine.

he gonna sell it to me for 4k. he bought a new car and didnt want to trade it in. im really good friendss with his son so im pretty sure he wouldnt try to pull one over on me.

That seems like a great price - bad transmission or not. If it's in good condition I would be all over it for that price. Hell - where you at, I'll come and get it. These 7.3 Excursions are getting really hard to find.
