Confusing power problem
I have an 01' Ex with the 7.3 with about 135,000 miles. At some point between third and fourth gears (usually at between 30-40 mph) the engine power starts to fade. If I let off of the gas pedal and then apply it again it cycles through. A buddy suggested that maybe the turbo is starting to go or the wastegate is not operating properly. I was wondering if this is a common problem. I have no idea.

I have a 2000 w/ 7.3L & around 1500 RPM's it is sluggish if I lightly apply gas.
If I apply more gas it drops a gear & spools up the turbo. I do have a SCT 3015 tuner though. |

You would have to have a pro look at it to know for sure.
My guess would be no, my Ex has 215,000 & has the original turbo on it. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in. Best of luck |

Just a thought here, I have a 2002 Excursion. I have had some serious issues stem from an alternator that totally destroyed itself last month. One thing I noticed is that most of my ground connections all over the truck exposed to the elements was corroded. While i don't think this attributed to the eventual destruction of my alternator(it was smoking at one point) I did have on occasion some of the symtoms your talking about. By all means get a professional to look at your truck, but something to keep in mind, check those grounds, and clean them if you think they might be slightest bit corroded. Just a thought, hope it helps.
