In the market for a SUV and the Ex came up
Howdy,
I used to have a 8.1L Avalanche, but was facing some annoying issues (3rd set of front hubs, trans was starting to slip, slippity sloppity steering, broken pieces and being @104K miles with 11mpg if I'm lucky so I sold it).On to the show... as I'm itching to have a big SUV again. 1) I drive 3 or so miles each direction every day, 20 mile each direction maybe twice a week, and see drives of 90miles to 300 each direction at least 3 times a month. Would this be compatible with a 7.3 diesel? 2) I have no tolerance for on-the-road mishaps, but maintenance scheduling is fine. Besides getting a built transmission, gauges, and free flowing exhaust, what are drivetrain areas that must or "should" be addressed? Or are those pretty much the gotta-do's anyhow? 3) On the chassis, any areas that see repeated maintenance? Any improved hub options? Bushings? I'm also considering a 6.0 ex with RCD servicing to address 6.0 issues. I'm open to any advice the sage minds have to offer. Thanks for listening ![]() -Mike |

7.3 is a bullet proof stock motor, 6.0 is good needs some reinforcement but I would recommend new upper and lower ball joints, and check out the steering gear box to make sure it's good, get a rear sway bar and make sure you get stiffer springs, there's a member on here that has the perfect suspension setup but I was in a time limit for a road trip so I opted for skyjacker add a leafs
