Wheel and Tire combinations?

I have the stock 16" alloy wheels on 265/75-16 Michelin tires, I was asking my tire shop about putting 20x10 wheels on there and he said it's a bad idea and to not go any bigger then an 18" wheel.

I then went to another tire shop and they were suggesting 20x10 wheels with a toyo all terrain 305/55-20 load range E and said I should get about 60,000 miles of life out of them.... Anyone have any suggestions? I would really like to put 20" wheels and I want a tire that's will be ok for road trips, main reason I bought the excursion

I am not sure why they would tell you not to go bigger than 18'' wheels, unless they don't sell or work with wheels larger than 18'', some shops are not equipped to handle larger wheels.

I had stock 20'' wheels & tires on my 06' f250 & when I had tires put on, the shop said they had a hard time getting them on & wouldn't want to do it again.

Besides unsprung weight & cost, I don't see any reason not to go with a larger wheels.
