Question Found a 2000 7.3L have questions

Greets, I've been looking at excursions for sale since last year and am ready to buy in the next 2-3 weeks.

I've been favoring a 7.3L because I've read that they are more reliable and bulletproof than the 6.0. I have a friend with an 05 6.0 F250 and have seen all the injector/turbo issues he has had.

On a sidenote I plan to run biodiesel that I've been making for 1.5 years, I also have a 95 Benz thats been running on my fuel and we make top quality fuel. I will be towing a trailer weekly and around town use and also to go to shows that we market our business at.

I found a 2000 7.3L excursion with 160K miles within driving distance. I plan to call the current owner today. He replied to an email and said that the check engine light has been on for 6 years and the truck runs well. What else should I be aware of with this model year?

Thanks in advance for replies, I'm excited to get an excursion. I test drove an 03 6.0L last week which was nice but had higher mileage and I really want a 7.3

If the price is right, have it inspected (Ckeck Engine Light), and get it. My dad has had a pretty hard time finding one with a diesel worth getting. Although he's coming from a 200K 2000 suburban with leather and well maintained (bought new in 99) Whatever you decide, good luck and welcome to the org. I'm still new but have learned alot.

Thanks... Corey

It sounds like bigfoot farting in a large trash can for a very long time!

what did you pay for it? What condition was it in?

I looked at 2 today, one was the 2000 and it was nice but had a clunk sound in the front left when I hit a bump but not a dip (new springs recently and also ball joint on right side)- maybe a control arm bushing? Outside was pretty rough, city vehicle with quite a few scratches and small dings. Also the CEL issue. Considering making an offer.

Other one was 2002, 195K miles and the guy had all kinds of electronic addons (chip, exhaust brake, sound system) and also was a smoker vehicle. Pass on that.

I paid $11K. It just had a bunch of work done also. New struts, shocks and brakes. The only things I found wrong are that the wiring under the fuse panel looks a little spaghetti like and there is a few patched spots in the rear of the roof. I am going to ship this thing to our condo in Aspen and leave it there for a ski-mobile. We have underground heated parking so I am not too concerned. As long as it starts and runs I am happy. I am going to put a set of Revo 2's in 285 flavor before it goes too.
