My truck was parked on the street (contractor working on our gated driveway) and someone tried to steal it last night. The lock cylinder in the door was punched in and the key-guide was broken off of the ignition and the ignition lock cylinder was all scratched up :-(
So...any recommendation for a tried and true alarm system with a good immobilizer for the diesel? Any other thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks!
James
PS: I'm a new owner with 1,600 miles on my truck since I got her. She has 216K now. I LOVE it!
I would still like something to make it so that when the doors are locked they are REALLY locked. Everyone I have talked to says these trucks are REALLY easy to get into. Should I just blank off the lock cylinder with a plate? Or ???
one thing that will slow them down enough for me to shoot the bastages...
disconnect the key lock cylinder in the drivers door. use the key fob to get in and you still have the passenger door should your batteries die and or the key fob fail for any reason.
then if you really want to stop them. install a stun gun wired to the batteries and connected to the ignition so if the keyslot is pried off the circuit goes live and will fry the sum batch. then disposal is all that is required >
In southern California they were reading the codes for the key fobs and just opening your doors with nothing broken. I no longer live there but i still find myself using either my key pad to lock the doors or hitting the lock button.
Sucks that happened, Most of the ex's have chips in their keys which will disable the ignition once it realizes
Thanks everyone for the responses so far. In Houston these are VERY popular trucks to steal and I don't live in the best neighborhood when it comes to petty crime up to GTO. I only drive my Ex on the weekend so I can park her behind a gate most of the time but there's going to be those days when I forget or I have to park on the street.
It's ironic because my local friend and mechanic is the original owner of his Ex and he is the one that put me on to them (thankfully). His car has been hit multiple times and he showed me where someone pried back the metal around/under the door handle and lock. He just left it and locks it up inside a fence every night...
