Looking at a potential candidate, and was wondering how many folks are running in the upper 200's and what kind of problems.
This is a 2002, injectors tested and cleared, cylinder test performed and cleared, maintenance records and receipts for everything. Carfax 3 owner vehicle no blemishes.
Cosmetically it looks really nice is said to run and drive great.
Just wondering what to expect as she approaches the 300K mark.
Usually injectors and trans are the first to wear out. The engines have good longevity when cared for. Price, condition and have a diesel mechanic check it out. Thousands of these diesels still motoring around.
check the front end. the upper/lower ball joints aren't known for lasting very long on the 99-2003 7.3l superduties. You could pull the intake tube off and check the turbo shaft play too.
Whats the price and body type? 4dr long bed, supercab, 4x4 or 2wd? and is it near rust areas? if the oil pan rust through you normally have to take the engine out but a few shops found how to not remove, just remove one engine mount and remove lots of goodies to do the job lol.
most well maintained 7.3ls are doing fine at that age, you might check the icp sensor and see if its soaked through the backside with oil (needs replaced then)
It is 4x4 excursion limited, really nice honest condition, seats professionally don up front. There is zero rust, and none of the clear coat hazing or fade. ICP sensor and connector, coolant tank, coolant thermostat, oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel drain valve, 50 cent mod, fuel pick up screen, hutch mod, Racor 660R10, hub lock solenoid, R hub vacuum seals, leveling shackles in front, and windshield were just replaced.
Mine just hit that, Its pretty well broken in now!
I just had the ICP sensor replaced, Trans went at 235, still on the original injectors(they are cold blooded forsake though), other then that mine is doing really well. I will keep driving it. If you have all the records and its been taken care of I wouldn't worry to much.
12k is WAY TO HIGH.... I paid 11k for my current 1999 f250 4x4 super cab short bed auto with 120k miles... bone stock. I don't think the owner is gonna budge much because it sounds like one of those "well the 7.3l is the best engine that ford ever made so its worth 12k blah blah blah" I would move on and find another vehicle for a reasonable price. I also found out mine had new upper/lower ball joints, new hydro booster, pwr steering pump. Then I replaced all the fluids n filters.
When I buy trucks the least important factor is the asking price. The condition, drive train survey, and history are the determining point. A real bargain $9000 truck that needs $10000 worth of repair will cost more than an overpriced $15000 well maintained one.
Well I pulled the trigger and drove it home. Honestly, this one drove better that one that I test drove last week that had 150K on the clock, felt tighter, and I cruised at 70mph all the way home. The only thing not to my liking was the carpet was in pretty bad shape, but I was able to buy a replacement off of a donor truck that belonged to a friend of mine. It is a 2002 Limited "Ultimate Edition" ...Not familiar with that package.
Here are some pics. Has some really nicely done updates on the exterior - headlights, superduty grille, and 2016 superduty bumper.
Looks like someone has kept up on it and redone a lot of it recently. Hopefully its a good truck for you! I love my ex it will never get sold, i'll keep fixing it.
