fuel gauge problem

Hey guys, I was hoping someone might have an answer for my problem with my fuel gauge. It always reads full except when the tank gets really empty and then it will start to read around 3/4 full (sometimes, not always). I just changed the sending unit in the tank and I am still getting the 0460 code: fuel indicator circuit error. Any Ideas? Thanks in advance.

Corroded or frayed wires could cause a bad signal

Thanks for responding.
The truck is a 01 F350 CCLB
As far as the float inside the tank, I don't know. I couldn't drop it all the way to the ground. Didn't have enough height to do that. I didn't feel any obstructions when I put the new one in.
I am wondering about the gauge on the dash. All the other gauges light up when the lights are on except the feul gauge.

The float can move freely but the rheostat (potentiometer) can also have poor contacts because it's simply worn-out too.

It could be that. The sending unit I just put in is from a wrecking yard, but they guaranty the parts to work.
