Truck idles rough and has check engine light

I have an early 99 and my truck was running fine one second, then next thing you know the service engine light comes on and the motor dies. it wont restart unless i turn ignition off then back on. and starts right back up, now the rough idle is here and light is on and is missing bad. tried a new ipr valve didnt fix it, i checked the icp sensor which isnt it to, another thing i notice is, the colder the oil temp the problems go away then when you go to drive they come back. what could it be

The only true way to know without throwing parts at it is to scan it and get the codes from the computer. If the SES light us on, it's got a code stored. Find someone locally with Auto Enginuity and pay them a 12 pack of good stuff to scan your truck.
