Truck idles rough and has check engine light

I have an early 99 and my truck was running fine one second, then next thing you know the service engine light comes on and the motor dies. it wont restart unless i turn ignition off then back on. and starts right back up, now the rough idle is here and light is on and is missing bad. tried a new ipr valve didnt fix it, i checked the icp sensor which isnt it to, another thing i notice is, the colder the oil temp the problems go away then when you go to drive they come back. what could it be

The only true way to know without throwing parts at it is to scan it and get the codes from the computer. If the SES light us on, it's got a code stored. Find someone locally with Auto Enginuity and pay them a 12 pack of good stuff to scan your truck.

Hi, did you ever get any ideas about your problem... Im having the same problem.
Engine check light comes on, engine runs really rough, (like a fouled spark in a gas engine) or maybe fouled injector? but the problem cured itself after about 4 miles of chugging along... taking it in to local Ford store, and would like ideas before I go!!
regards,
Dennis/WB6UHQ Los Banos KOA

it ended up being a loose UVCH

I got mine resolved too..ended up being a shorted ICP line into the valve cover.
cost about $400 for one bank and opted to get other bank replaced... found too
that the turbo boot was rotten, and was sucking air... did not find a replacement part and had to go scrounging, and found a used one... 7.3 parts are becoming scarce... going to have to go to aftermarket 7.3 parts, and that's ok with me.. regards,
Dennis
