Wheel Bearing Problem

Just had to have both front wheel bearing assemblies replaced on my 00' Excursion at 111K miles and at a cost of $1100. Just out of curiosity does this sound typical? By the way, my tires are only slightly oversized 285/75/16's if that matters? Thanks for your help?

I just had to replace one of mine, but mine was a 4x4 F350 and I did it myself. Cost me $410 from NAPA, but there is a guy on ebay selling them for about $250 a piece. I priced mine from FORD, and just the part was $480 I think for just one, so if you had both replaced at a dealership, doesn't sound too far off. Buy a Haynes or Chiltons book and do the work yourself. Not too hard to do at all and you save LOTS in $$$$

Powerstrokeshop.com - PSD and Ford Superduty Parts offers fantastic deals. They come with both bearings for about 600 bucks w/ ABS line, new studs and all new seals. It's actually cake work after the first go-round for your average person that can turn a wrench.

Hopefully if you stay tuned to this site you can save more money in the future.

Just a FYI I changed my driverside wheel bearing at 117k. So don't fret it, since it's not really a big deal. I also have run 285's since 60k and I'm at 126k. The stock hubs are weak with ANY tire taller or heavier since it creates increased stresses on the bearings that they were not intended for.

I'd keep an eye on the ball joints because they'll be the next thing to go on your front axle...
They are also a DIY item IMO, and also just a FYI, I'm 20 years old
