i got a 2002 f250
ok so last thursday i was bout to get onto a on ramp... truck wouldn't accelerate and was acting like it wasn't getting fuel and it eventually died. so i load the truck on a gooseneck take it to the dealership... my truck had been having a hiccup so i told them about that and luckly i had a warranty recall on that part... that didn't fix it monday they call me and tell me its my fuel pump and tha it was only putting out 3psi and then it would eventually not put out any at all... so they installed a fuel pump .. came out to being 626.00 329 for part 2 something for labor... so i pick my truck up last night and i drive maybe 3 minutes and truck does the same exact same thing it did when i was trying to get on the on-ramp.... so i called the dealership and im PI$$ED! they called a flat bed tow truck and take it back. what should i do? obviously the fuel pump wasn't the problem.. should they refund me my 626 dollars or what? i don't want to pay for every part they are going to throw at it and obviously the fuel pump was one of them WHAT TO DO!!!???!!!?? |

That’s why I fix my own stuff whenever possible, sometimes you may get a mechanic who’s having a bad day. Also you could find a fuel pump for around $100 and change it in about 10 minutes. IF it is truly a fuel pressure problem then there are other cheap things beside the fuel pump. One would be the fuel pressure regulator stuck open. Its on the side of the filter bowl and can be taken apart and inspected in about 5 minutes. Another problem causing no fuel pressure and can cause it to run fine for a few minutes but die out when pulling hard is if the pickup in the tank is clogged. I once got a bad load of fuel and it clogged up my wholes system. There is a mixing chamber thingy in the tank that has screens in it that can get clogged and starve it for fuel. There are lots of pics of that stuff in my sig link.

One of my favorite mods is the fuel tank and prepump filter mods where you remove the screens and mixing chamber and factory fuel line connections and all that crap. You replace the mixing chamber and screens with a piece of tubing. Then install a big, cheap, and easy to service filter on the frame rail and run fuel hose from the tank, to the filter then to the pump. This gives you a clear and air leak free path for fuel to flow and a real filter to catch any crap before it gets to the pump or expensive factory filter or injectors. The whole mod cost me about $35 and took about 2 hours. I also cut off the filler and vent tubes while the tank was down, this allows me to get another 6-8 gallons of fuel in the tank before the nozzle clicks off and eliminated by splash back problem I had every time I refueled. I bet you’d have a hard time talking the dealer mechanic into doing that mod though.
