e99 shuts off

I have an e99 7.3 and I have two problems and im not sure if theyre related or not. the first is that when engaged in reverse my truck sputters and shuts off and rolls black smoke. the second is my truck has been shutting off in the rain. ive put two cps in it in a matter of a year and a half and was wondering what the chances were of having bad sensors or if there was more to the problem.

The rain issue is more than likely your IDM is getting wet. Its up under the driver from wheel well.

The trans issue sounds like torque converter programming issues. Like its really lugging the engine down. Very strange.

my 03 does the same thing and have 2 buddies with same problem. If at idle or driving slow it dies. if running the highway it coughs. I pulled 3 codes last time it did it. P0603 P0344 P1211. it just coughs and runs fine. sometimes it throws the light sometimes it doesn't.
